With the protectiveness
Of a ghetto tortoise, I inexorably
Warded my lush heart, till from heaven you
Unexpectedly flew down, unthawing my carapace
Now anew I am falling,
S l o w l y and s w i f t l y,
Like a wide leaf departing from a stem,
Again with gaeity is my being suddenly filled,
Like a hungry ant on the mouth of a cup of honey,
For from this destruction is born the greatest of love.
This is the genesis of my Red Heart Diaries, a series of love poems I’ve been crafting lately.
That’s it, Really.
