As promised last Friday, here comes a second and final installment of my list of 30 Inspirational, Motivational and Feel Good Songs. As I did in the first piece, every song has some quoted lyrics and a few explanatory words on the song.
Here is the list:
16. Dream On – Aerosmith
“You got to lose to know how to win…/ Dream on, dream until your dreams come true”
Just from the title, the message is sent across to you. You lose? Don’t mind, learn to win from that and just keep on dreaming and working towards your dreams until they come true.
17. I Believe I Can Fly – R. Kelly
“I believe I can fly / I believe I can touch the sky / I think about it every night and day / Spread my wings and fly away”
Believe in yourself, in your dreams, in miracles. Believe that you can do anything, that if you can see yourself doing some things, you can actually do it. And that’s it, give the song a listen.
18. Stronger – Kelly Clarkson
“What doesn’t Killy you makes you stronger…/ What doesn’t kills you makes a fighter”
Quite a great song for those moments when things go sideways instead of going your way. Those problems don’t have to bring you down, fight and stand tall for ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’.
19. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye (Ft. Tammi Terrell)
“Oh baby there ain’t no mountain high enough, / Ain’t no valley low enough, / Ain’t no river wide enough / To keep me from getting to you babe”
Whether it is a partner or just any other goal, this song fires into you the strength and determination to reach that. No matter what obstacles stand your way, if your goals are really established inside you, nothing will stop you.
20. Save The World – Swedish House Mafia
“Who’s gonna save the world tonight? / Who’s gonna bring it back to life? / We’re gonna make it, you and I / We’re gonna save the world tonight”
A song that motivates you not to just sit down and watch your life (and the entire mankind) fade away. It’s a call for you to motivate yourself and do something to bring life back to the world.
21. I Won’t Back Down – Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
“Well I know what’s right, I got just one life / In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around / But I’ll stand my ground and I won’t back down”
This song is simple, not needing complicated and deep lyrics, but very inspiring and sweet. It gives you the strength to stand for what you believe in and fight for yourself – never backing down!
22. I Believe – R. Kelly
“When they tried to keep you down / You kept up your head / Never loosing sight / You believed in what was right / You endured to the end / Walked through the strongest wind / The storms over and a new day begins”
One of the theme songs that mouths of many black people (and other races that suffered from racism) sung after Obama was elected president. Not political though, the message in the song is that anything can happen, and you have to believe it.
23. No Love – Eminem (Ft. Lil Wayne)
“So you can keep knocking but won’t knock me down / No love lost, no love found”
People will treat you bad in life, but you don’t have to stress for what goes around surely comes around, and when you’re somewhere, you’ll sing this song with full vigour.
24. Earth Song – Michael Jackson
“Did you ever stop to notice / All the blood we’ve shed before / Did you ever stop to notice / The crying Earth the weeping shores?”
In this song, MJ paints a vivid picture of the world we live in and all the ever-present problems in it. He touches our hearts by putting into us a feeling of love for all the things around us. Do we love the present bleeding earth? Learn to love and care about the earth.
25. Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Bobby McFerrin
“In every life we have some trouble / When you worry you make it double / Don’t worry, be happy”
There comes a time when you look at your problems and feel like you’ve got the whole bunch, like you’re the only one facing obstacles…but the truth is that we all do have some, and it’s good that we spend some time to keep our heads off the feeling, to be happy for worrying doesn’t help in any way. Listen to this calming song, you’ll thank me later!
26. Imagine – John Lenon
“Imagine no possessions / I wonder if you can / No need for greed or hunger / A brotherhood of man / Imagine all the people / Sharing all the world.”
A world where everything is okay is possible if we all reconsidered why we fight and why we don’t give. This song inspires you to do better for the world at large. Forget the religious differences! Forget possessions that make you be greedy! Forget anything else and just live in the moment in perfect peace with others…the dream of a better world can come alive…just imagine.
27. Love Yourz – J. Cole
“There’s no such thing as life that’s better than yours”
Love your life, that’s the message in this song. The life you’re living is just perfect so love it for no life is better than yours, really. Love yourself, appreciate yourself.
28. Alright – Kendrick Lamar
“If God got us then we gon’ be alright”
A feel good and motivational song. All the problems around you but there’s always a way out, a promise for a better tomorrow so don’t stress for if God got you then be assured that you’re gonna be alright – everything will be just fine.
29. Live Your Life – T.I. (Ft. Rihanna)
“Never mind what haters say, / Ignore them ’til they fade away”
Another song that calls for you to be self appreciative. Don’t worry about anybody else, do good to people and be appreciative of your life. Don’t be selfish, there’s more to life than just handling a pay check. Live your life and you’re gonna be great that way.
30. Champion – Chipmunk (Ft. Chris Brown) [and also the Remix with J Cole)
“No-one wants to help / I guess you’re on your own / Build a foundation with the bricks they throw / In a black and white world, true colors show / Change if you want, everybody grows / Life’s like an eel, but try and get a hold / Opinions ain’t facts, take ’em and let em go”
Most often the people who are taken for granted and not believed in are the ones who make it, you probably know this. This song is about you when you’re in such situations. They try to hold you down? Build your way up from what they say! Prove them wrong!
Additional Mention: Nervous – John Forte
So here’s the end of the list folks. Remember, it’s not a ‘top list’ so the numbering indicates no order.
That’s it, really.
Do you have some great inspirational/motivational and feel good songs that you’d recommend people to listen to? Hope you don’t mind dropping the titles in the comment box!
